Hooking Up With Earth

New Agers and Eastern philosophy adherents may call the soil "Mother Earth." But whether we agree on it or not, recent scientific evidence indicate that the earth can help bring well-being to mankind more than we normally thought it can.

IN THE eyes of ordinary people, the soil is a mere resource from which all plants can be harvested. In the eyes of those who studied chemicals in the living environment, it is an unlimited source of electrons that can be a key to curing maladies that infect mankind.

The 1965 Nobel Prize winner in Physics Richard Phillips Feynman wrote: “When the body potential is the same as the Earth’s electric potential, it becomes an extension of the Earth’s gigantic electrical system.”

Scientists like cardiologist Stephen Sinatra, Gaetan Chevalier and James Oschman hold that the earth’s surface is negatively charged, and contact therewith allows electrons to transfer from the earth to the body. And since our immune systems function at their peak when our bodies have an adequate supply of electrons, contact of our body with the earth allows these particles to neutralize free radicals inside, which are positively charged.

As simple as walking barefoot on earth can do the trick.

The so-called “grounding theory” slowly finds scientific support thereafter.

For instance, this year’s issue of the Journal of Environmental and Public Health carried a review of past studies on this phenomenon. The team headed by Chevalier of the University of California at Irvine noted its effectiveness in treating sleep disturbances, chronic muscle and joint pain, and stress (including such psychological conditions as anxiety, depression and irritability) as well as thyroid diseases.

The resulting Earthing Therapy found further support when many studies confirmed its capability to... [READ MORE]

On 20 May 2011 (Friday), the First Division of the Philippine Court of Appeals dismissed the plea that Julie Balarbar, wife of 15 years of House Deputy Speaker Lorenzo Tañada III, filed questioning the November 25, 2010 decision of the Makati Regional Court declaring the marriage null and void on the ground that Balarbar had been diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder (NPD). Pyschiatric evaluation show a diagnosis of NPD with anti-social features, from her involvement in a shoplifting incident, her closeness to and trips abroad with her male students, and a kissing incident with a co-professor. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder Fourth Edition (DSM IV-TR) enumerated nine indicators of NPD, with only five of them needed for the diagnosis. It is not clear however which indicators have been found in the case of the Tañada annulment case. The Archdiocese of Manila also declared their canonical marriage void ab initio (void from the start) due to "gra...
